Our trainers have studied learning theory, both operant and classical conditioning in depth. In addition to understanding the science of learning they have also studied canine behavior, breed differences, ethology and of course how people learn! Teaching you, the human, how to communicate with your dog is one of the most important things we do. Very often there is a fundamental disconnect between what a person thinks they are saying to their dog and what the dog is hearing. All of our trainers have trained dogs for a minimum of 500 hours under direct supervision of the owners before ever going out to train on their own.

Christa Sapita - My name is Christa and I have an awesome job working for A Dog's Best Friend. I have spent my entire life with animals of all shapes and sizes, from rabbits to dogs, to horses. I was actively involved in 4-H for 13 years, focusing on the agricultural and public speaking aspects. I also raised guide dog puppies as a 4-H project. Those puppies would stay with me for a year while I taught them household manners and basic obedience.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Equine Science and Management and a diploma from Penn Foster University in Dog Obedience and Training. I managed three large show barns while riding 8-12 horses a day, but now focus mainly on dogs. I've also won 5 state public speaking competitions and love teaching Puppy Kindergarten Class.
I currently have two Labrador retrievers, one is a 7 year old retired guide dog whom I raised as a puppy and the other is a 1 year old that I am training for competitive obedience.
